Celebrate 300 Years of America's Oldest Cave Graffiti - Enter our Contest to Win $300 & Tickets to Majestic Caverns!

Majestic Caverns is celebrating the 300 year anniversary of America’s oldest cave graffiti in style – with a graffiti contest! Located in the heart of Alabama, Majestic Caverns is home to some of the most incredible cave formations and natural beauty. Now, we invite all artists to show off their skills by creating their own artwork that will be showcased in our park and on our website.

Our 300 Year Anniversary celebration includes a fun and creative way for people to honor this momentous occasion by submitting their own unique piece of graffiti art. We want to see your artistic expression come alive! Entries can be submitted via tagging Majestic Caverns on Facebook or Instagram and using the hashtag #MyMajesticGraffiti with all submissions due by April 28th at 5pm. Applicants can also submit their work through emailing their artwork to Graffiti@MajesticCaverns.com. A panel of experts judging the graffiti will be looking for graffiti that expresses history, a cavern-like look or emphasizes a Majestic theme. Feel free to get creative with your artistic expression! Art can be submitted as a digital work, a canvas, printed photo or multimedia creation, quilt, sculpture, pottery, etc. All participants whose work abides by the contest rules will be invited to display their art at a special art walk on May 13th at the park! All participants will receive two attraction tickets for their participation to use on that day at the park. The winner will be announced on May 1st and will receive a $300 prize, 4 All-Inclusive Tickets to the Majestic Caverns, plus have their work featured in our park and on our website. All entries must be original works that are non-offensive and suitable for all ages. Individuals may submit multiple entries, although there will only be one prize per person. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone who loves expressing themselves through art or wants to showcase their creativity!

“This is a fun opportunity for people to recognize this historic unique piece of our caverns' history,” said Joy Sorensen, President of Majestic Caverns. “We want to share the anniversary of our vibrant history while also encouraging artists.”

The graffiti found in Majestic Caverns has been dated back 300 years ago this year to 1723, making it the oldest historically documented piece of cave graffiti in America. It was created by I.W. Wright, a fur trader traveling through the area in 1723. Later, in 1796, George Stiggins confirmed the graffiti was present during his visit to the caverns. George Stiggins wrote to President George Washington of the beauty of the caverns and it was officially honored with being registered as the first cave on record in the United States. You can both see and hear more about this underground historic graffiti during your visit in Majestic Caverns.

Now, you too can become part of this fascinating story! Submit your artwork before April 28th at 5pm and you could become the newest addition to Majestic Caverns’ legacy. Let your creativity shine through and show us what you got!
