The Greatest Miracle Took Place in a Cave

Do you know where the greatest miracle in history took place? Have you considered visiting a caverns as a unique pilgrimage to celebrate this monumental moment in history? Easter is one of our favorite holidays as it celebrates history’s greatest miracle! It's a time of joy and hope, and a time to reflect on the amazing miracle that took place years ago in a cave tomb. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and rose again from the grave three days later to give us eternal life. What could be more miraculous than that? We would like to encourage you to journey with us into the heart of the earth to remember the greatest miracle that took place in a cave tomb.

Light exploded from a dark place! The most significant moment in history happened because of what was missing from a carved out cave. During the time of Jesus, a body was prepared for burial by being washed and anointed with perfume, then wrapped in a shroud, with the head being covered by a separate special cloth. Caves were considered burial grounds for people who were wealthy enough to afford the land and the labor of creating a burial space within them. Although Jesus’ family was not wealthy enough to afford this cave tomb, Scripture shares that one was provided to Him to use by Joseph of Arimathea (Luke 23:50-53). Caves were cut out of a rock cliff and would have different rooms that family members could share. The body was laid out on a shelf cut from the rock of the cave and left for a year. Then family members would return, gather the bones, put them into a container called an ossuary, and place them in a back area of the cave. Passover restrictions prevented Jesus’ disciples from completing their burial preparations. So, two days later, they headed to the tomb to finish anointing Jesus’ body. But when they got there, they were confronted with the unimaginable. The rock sealing the tomb had been rolled away and the body of the One they had come to honor was missing. Although they were at first confused and troubled, they became convinced and triumphant. What Jesus had told them had come to pass. Death could not keep Him in the grave! He had conquered death and was alive just as He said He would be. A tragedy was turned to triumph that day.

So, at Easter we come together with family and friends to remember Christ's sacrifice and his promise of everlasting life. We would like to invite you to commemorate this day, through going into an extraordinary setting to remember the sacrifice, victory, and gift we have through Jesus’ resurrection from his cavern grave. Let's celebrate Easter and remember why we celebrate this miraculous day!
