Mar 7, 2022

If you’re a teacher, then you know that field trips are a great way to get your students out of the classroom and to have them interact with the world around them. Planning a successful field trip can be tricky, but with plenty of activities to keep students of all ages entertained, as well as knowledgeable guides to teach them about the history and science of the caverns, Majestic Caverns is sure to be a hit with your class. Here are some tips on how to plan a successful school field trip to Majestic Caverns.

1. Decide what grades you want to bring on the field trip. Majestic Caverns offers educational programs for students in grades pre-K through 12th grade. Our free online educational platform has curriculum-correlated materials for grades K – 12. Whatever grade you want to bring will have plenty of curriculum-supported educational opportunities for their visit. But be sure to check out the platform to see how your visit to Majestic Caverns will bring your in-classroom learning experience to life for your students.

2. Next, choose which activities you want your students to participate in. There are plenty of options available, from the absolute must-see Guided Caverns Tour to panning for gemstones, to our 3/4 acre maze! We allot 1 hour of time for the caverns and 30 minutes per attraction, so be sure to keep in mind how much time you have for your visit. Almost every field trip visit to Majestic Caverns includes the gemstone panning and maze experiences, but if your group has more than 2.5 hours for their visit, we recommend adding on the Destiny Express Park Train, the traverse wall, and the cannon wars for some additional learning fun! We wrote a blog on a few of our most popular educational attractions that you can learn more about here.

3. Most groups also book some time to visit our Gift Shop. This is a great opportunity for people to use the restroom or grab a snack during their visit, but the education and experiences don’t have to stop here. In our Gift Shop, we have an entire section dedicated to unique educational fun! We have the most extensive rock shop in our state which includes a beautiful range of unique stones and geodes that will be an ideal souvenir for remembering your visit. Also, we have learning experiences students and teachers can bring to their classroom or home such as blue light experiment kits, globe building kits, and crystal creating fun. And for hard working teachers, we have a cafe with all sorts of delicious freshly made drinks for you, from teas to coffees and a wide range of lattes. And taste the difference at our cafe as you make a positive impact on the world. Every cup of coffee you purchase from our cafe provides a hot meal for a child in Honduras. So whether you are looking for educational souvenirs, seeing rare exotic stones, or wanting a mid morning boost of energy and focus, the Gift Shop is a wonderful stop for you and your group.

4. Plan ahead – contact Majestic Caverns as soon as you’re ready to visit so that we can get your class booked for an educational fun trip they’ll never forget! Fun fact: during portions of our season we have days where we are only open for groups, giving your group the opportunity of a private day at the park!

5. Enjoy your adventure! This is one of the few field trips you can experience with your group where our talented team will guide you through your adventure. This makes planning for your trip so much easier, as it takes the pressure off of you and places it on our capable certified team. So, get ready to learn and introduce your students to an unforgettable experience that brings learning to life for them! You’re going to love it and so will they.
