Designed for Kindergarten Learners
Majestic Caverns’ Kindergarten educational experience is intentionally designed to support early learners through hands-on exploration, guided observation, and simple cause-and-effect discovery.
Concepts students begin learning in the classroom — movement, patterns, habitats, and human interaction with the environment — are reinforced through real-world experiences inside the cave and across the park.
This experience supports curiosity, vocabulary development, and foundational science and social studies skills in a way young learners can see, feel, and remember.
What Students Will Experience
During their visit, Kindergarten students will:
• Observe movement and stability in natural environments
• Explore how plants and animals depend on their surroundings
• Practice listening, observing, and asking questions
• Learn through guided storytelling and visual examples
• Connect classroom vocabulary to real-world settings

KINDERGARTEN SCIENCE CONTENT STANDARDS
Kindergarten students enter school with an eagerness to explore the world around them. Although their experiences and background knowledge may be limited, science instruction provides ample opportunities to develop investigative thinking, argumentation, and reasoning in the context of familiar surroundings. Students develop the foundational skills necessary for future learning in science.
MOTION AND STABILITY: FORCES AND INTERACTIONS
K.2
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Use observations and data from investigations to determine if a design solution (e.g., designing a ramp to increase the speed of an object in order to move a stationary object) solves the problem of using force to change the speed or direction of an object.”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
Let’s talk about Motion and Stability! How would you get something that is standing still, to move? Do you have any ideas about this? Maybe write down how you think you can get an object to be in motion that is still! Well let’s look into some ways to move something or someone down a ramp!

ECOSYSTEMS: INTERACTIONS, ENERGY, AND DYNAMICS
K.3
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Distinguish between living and nonliving things and verify what living things need to survive (e.g., animals needing food, water, and air; plants needing nutrients, water, sunlight, and air).”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
How can you tell if something is living or not? Do non-living things need to drink water? Do they need to go to the bathroom? Let’s watch this video to learn more!

K.5
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Construct a model of a natural habitat (e.g., terrarium, ant farm, diorama) conducive to meeting the needs of plants and animals native to Alabama.”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
Let’s talk about natural habitats and how they protect animals. At Majestic Caverns we have special animals that need protecting and we had a local schools step in to make a habitat for that special animal. When Childersburg’s fifth grade students learned what a positive role bats had on our local environment, they decided to team up with Majestic Caverns to #savethebats! They created several bat house models and the winning model was built and placed at Majestic Caverns for a special bat friendly environment. Now you may want to build a habitat for ants or any other sort of creature that needs special place to live.

EARTH’S SYSTEMS
K.7
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Observe and describe the effects of sunlight on Earth’s surface (e.g., heat from the sun causing evaporation of water or increased temperature of soil, rocks, sand, and water).
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
How do you think the sunlight affects the earth? Is it even important? Well, it is very important! In the photos below, you can see a world that is unaffected by sunlight. What do you notice is different? Are there many plants? Are there many animals?
Here are some photos of animals that can survive without sunlight.

K.8
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Design and construct a device (e.g., hat, canopy, umbrella, tent) to reduce the effects of sunlight.”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
Do you get hot when you sit out in the sun? Well let’s look at some fun ways to cool off on hot days!

K.9
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Observe, record, and share findings of local weather patterns over a period of time (e.g., increase in daily temperature from morning to afternoon, typical rain and storm patterns from season to season).”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
What time of day do you think is the hottest? Can the weather change over a day? Does the season affect the weather? Let’s learn more in this video!

EARTH & HUMAN ACTIVITY
K.10
Classroom Connection:
This standard is reinforced through hands-on observation and guided exploration during the cave tour.
“Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasts in planning for, preparing for, and responding to severe weather.”
SUPPORTING CURRICULUM
How would you prepare for a cold day? How would you prepare for a hot day? How would you prepare for a rainy day? Share some of your thoughts! At Majestic Caverns we prepare for cold, hot, and rainy days differently. If you are inside of our caverns it doesn’t rain! And if you are inside of the caverns, it is the SAME temperature EVERY day! Also if you are in a cave, a tornado cannot get to you, because it cannot pick a cave up! How cool is that!? But most of us don’t live in a cave, so let’s see what you know from this fun quiz!
