School Group FAQ
What do students need to bring?
Students should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes with good traction. The caverns stay a constant 60 degrees year-round, so a light jacket is recommended. Everything else is taken care of—we’ve designed this to be a simple, stress-free experience for teachers.
Is this aligned with curriculum?
Yes. Our programs are intentionally designed to support Alabama Course of Study standards in science and social studies. We also provide optional educational materials to help you connect your visit to classroom learning before and after your trip.
What if it rains?
No problem. The cave experience is fully underground and unaffected by weather, making this a reliable field trip option year-round. Some outdoor attractions may be adjusted for safety, but your core educational experience will not be impacted. We also will work with you to reschedule if that is your preference.
How long does the field trip take?
Most field trips last between 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on your group’s schedule and selected activities. The guided cave tour itself is just under one hour, with additional time for exploration, learning, and fun.
Do you offer group pricing or teacher support?
Yes. We offer special group rates for schools, along with a team that will help you plan every step of your visit. From scheduling to arrival, we’re here to make your field trip easy and successful.
Does the park have an entrance fee?
We have transitioned to an all-inclusive gate which creates a better all around guest experience and has many safety benefits. As locations around the US are limiting capacity in response to the COVID pandemic, it is difficult to measure a specific capacity where there is no gate. The gate will allow our team to ensure the park is never past capacity. Also, our new gate will allow those who choose to purchase tickets at our park to do so in the open air outside of our brochure hut. By limiting the number of people indoors, we will be able to serve guests more fluidly and the Gift Shop can seve guests who would simply like to make food or retail purchases. There is never any parking fee.
Is photography or video allowed inside the cave?
Yes, we encourage the use of photography and video in the cave!
Is Majestic Caverns a State or National Park?
No, although we are a historic site, we are a privately owned park that has remained stewarded by the same family for over 100 years.
